One after another events, conferences and exhibitions have reluctantly announced that they are not running as normal this year, and have instead arranged virtual, online conferences in an effort to deliver an ‘experience’ to disappointed exhibitors, visitors and delegates.
The AV world is no different. ISE in Amsterdam this year -- the final year before it moves to Barcelona in 2021, fingers crossed – managed to go ahead despite the threat of Covid-19 looming on the horizon, and disruptive weather conditions. Since then multiple tradeshows, including InfoComm USA and InfoComm India have been postponed or transformed into digital events, and we’re now waiting to see if Integrated Systems Russia will be next.
The difficulty with postponing events of this size is that it is almost impossible to know when it will be safe to stage the next one. Currently, we are in the dark but we still need to market our products and communicate with customers, and for many of us, those customers are located across the world.
Virtual exhibitions are not ideal, but they do provide a window through which the AV industry can display new technologies and updates, and network with qualified, interested audiences that may otherwise be hard to reach.
We, therefore, owe it to organisers and events partners to get behind their efforts to bring us together. Let’s embrace connected events, get onto their online forums, sign up for networking and matchmaking opportunities and use all the digital tools we are being offered to keep interacting.

Integrated Systems Russia, 27-29 October
